BIO

GET TO KNOW ME

Hello, my name is Julia and I am from Omaha, Nebraska. Growing up I did not know exactly what I wanted to do, but I did know I wanted to truly love my job and be creative in it. I always loved creating things and had many creative outlets as a child. I created a podcast with my friends, we made videos on Facebook, started a YouTube channel, and I even wrote stories online. I especially enjoyed creating videos and images online. During high school, I learned I can actually make money doing these things and started a business doing freelance video editing and graphic design work. I have edited over 100 videos for clients and have created numerous graphic design elements for their businesses.

Since the beginning of my career, I’ve focused on channeling my talent and creativity into meaningful and powerful results. I take pride in the work I do, as well as the strong relationships I’ve built with clients and colleagues. I firmly believe in working hard, working together and having fun along the way.

Currently, I am studying Advertising, Public Relations, and Design at the University of Colorado Boulder and am extremely passionate about my studies and doing whatever I can to improve my design work. I have just finished my first year at college and plan on spending the summer working hard on my portfolio and spending time with my family as this will be my last summer home in Omaha.

Mac Demarco Adobe Illustrator Vector Drawing

This is a piece I created with Adobe Illustrator. I am planning on expanding this part of my portfolio by designing a font type and creating concert posters similar in this style. Nearly all of the hairs were drawn individually. Things I thought I did well in this piece were patience, color, and the shirt and overalls are the exact style I want to continue in future pieces of this series. Things I can improve on are definitely shading, figuring out how to draw hands and create nuanced shading in the face and arms.

Local

This is a film I created with the help of my friend Claire, the actress seen in the video. It centers around the idea of learning to love where you come from, something I struggled with when I was growing up in Nebraska. As I aged, I learned to love where I'm from. I think a lot of people can identify with that idea. There are so many little things I wish I could fix about this film but I am still extremely proud of it.

Professional Experience

MANAGER

January 2016 - January 2018

Joined as a general Front of House team member, within a year was the first high school student to be promoted to manager position within the business through a series of dependable service and team leadership performance. Currently I manage 10 employees and has retained manager status for one year. Attentive, patient, and diplomatic when dealing with customers. This job has taught me leadership skills and is an example of my willingness to work hard.

FREELANCE EDITING

March 2017 - present

For the past year I have worked as a freelance editor for numerous clients. Professionally, I have edited over 100 videos for my clients and have had to work with tight deadlines and picky clients.

SERVER

June 2018 - Present

This is my current job as a server that I have in order to pay for my rent and all other expenses. Serving has taught me mental strength and being completely self-reliant is difficult but has made me more hardworking than ever.
